How to apply to a chilean university? Let me explain it
How to apply to a Chilean college
The applying system:
If you want to apply to a college in Chile you have to complete some steps.
The first step is to give a test called PSU (the initials of Prueba de Selección Universitaria), the test consists of 4 different exams, math, humanities, sciences and history, during 2 days (two exams per day) and each one last almost 3 hours. PSU is usually 2 weeks before students finish high school. The results are public a month later. When you have your scores you must search if they are high enough to apply to college, if they aren't you can take a gap year or go to an institute, and if they are you begin another step.
The next step is to make an online list with the majors and universities you would like to get in, and order the options considering your preferences, for example, your first option is Medicine in Utalca, if you don't get in they consider your second option Business in Católica del Maule, you can apply just to 5 options and need to be very clear in the order. Universities accept students using a list ordering from the best to the worst applying scores considering percentages of the PSU scores, ranking and NEM.
The last step is to wait and see if you get into the college and major you want. In case you don't get in you can study and give the test again, don't worry.
My personal case:
In my case, I was very nervous during the whole process because I really wanted to go to college so I studied a lot and prepare myself mentally to do the test. After that, I was a bit more confident, relaxed and when I got my scores I was very happy with the results. I applied to Accounting in Utalca as my first option and I got in.
My major:
I choose that major because during high school I was a really good math student and I went to some National Math Competitions so I was sure my degree would be something related to that area. Another reason why I decided to study this major is the flexibility of the work hours, I can work anytime and anywhere because most of the job is by computer. Also, I have the option to work with people all over the world, which is very important to me because I love languages and always try to learn something different about them.
Some tips!
- Don't worry, a bad test is not the end of your life
